Our Strength

What does it really look like to be fully fulfilled by simply knowing that the Lord loves me? If I can’t even wrap my head around who the Lord is, how can I be sustained by his Joy? When will my love for the Lord get me out of bed in the morning?

These questions have been cluttering my brain lately. I feel like every surface in my mind is stacked with whens, and hows, and whys. So out of this confusion, of course, a poem was born. It’s really not very deep, but it caused me to choose to try to process what it looks like for the Joy of our Lord to be long lasting, long suffering, and strength giving.

“May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in him, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.” Romans 15:13 (NIV, emphasis added).

Though you have not seen him, you love him; and even though you do not see him now, you believe in him and are filled with an inexpressible and glorious joy, for you are receiving the goal of your faith, the salvation of your souls.” 1 Peter 1:8-9 (NIV, emphasis added).
“This day is holy to our Lord. Do not grieve, for the joy of the LORD is your strength.” Nehemiah 8:10 (NIV, emphasis added).
White Joy
I love it when you flicker
Those lips.

My eyes tug and pull each side
To see your face
Turn up.

The sparkle that
Comes along hinters back to
Sweet memories.

It brightens those dark place
Where fear dwells
Deep.

My knees are rough from hoping
That the weight of the world
Won’t tear your hesitant joy
Down.

But rather,
Make it shine even louder
To echo into
Forever.
